YEREVAN. – Armenia's Prosecutor Office should consider privatization of Vorotan Hydro Cascade, secretary of Armenian National Congress Aram Mankyan said in the parliament on Tuesday.

He noted that $180 million is a knock-down price.  In addition, water reservoirs of the Cascade are listed among strategic facilities according to the National Water Program of Armenia. Finally, the deal has not been approved by the parliament.

The agreement on the sale of the Vorotan Hydro Cascade—which is a series of three hydroelectric power plants— to Contour Global was signed in January.

A $180-million deal is the largest U.S. private investment in Armenia’s history and the first U.S. investment in Armenia’s critical energy sector.
