Iran’s Ambassador to Baku Bagir Bahrami stated the Azerbaijani and Iranian Presidents reached an agreement on Tehran’s assistance to the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

In an interview with SalamNews, the Ambassador said that the issue, OSCE Minsk Group has been engaged in for 18 years, will be resolved peacefully. However, he added that the West, particularly the U.S., have never sought a settlement of this problem, so they cannot be relied on.

Speaking of the agreement, Bahrami stressed that Tehran has made certain steps in this direction. He thanked the Azerbaijani leadership for accepting cooperation proposals.

The Ambassador emphasized that Iran has always recognized and supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. “We wish an early resolution of the problem and re-establishment of peace and security in the region,” he added.

Bagir Bahrami believes that only the regional countries can find the way out. He emphasized that they are trying to find the ways of resolving the problem, as all the regional countries will benefit from it. The work is aimed at a fair resolution of the conflict, Ambassador Bahrami said. He added that the Islamic world should unite round the issue as integral parts of one organism.

According to him, a fair resolution implies recognition of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity by all states. Iran, Turkey and many other countries have recognized it and have repeatedly stated their univocal stance on the issue, Bahrami said.
