On June 6, U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates handed U.S. President Barack Obama’s letter over to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijani Trend agency reports.

He said the U.S. President remembers his first visit to Azerbaijan when a senator. Aliyev asked the U.S. official to convey his thanks to the U.S. President for the letter.  

The officials exchanged views on bilateral military cooperation.

Gates arrived in Baku from Singapore as part of his Asian trip. He plans to meet with Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev. Issues on supply of U.S. armed forces in Afghanistan via Azerbaijan will be the focus of the meeting.
