In connection with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili’s upcoming official visit to France on June 7-8, the Lyons-headquartered Armenian organization “Yerkir Europe” addressed a letter to French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The letter contained facts of the Georgian Government’s discriminatory towards Javakhk Armenians, highlighting the political reprisals against the Javakhk activist Vahagn Chakhalyan, his trial accompanied by outrageous infringements of law and 10 years’ imprisonment based on trumped up charges.

In conclusion, the authors express their concern over the Armenians’ situation in Georgia. The organization requested President Sarkozy to ask his Georgian counterpart to put an end to the policy of violating Javakhk Armenian rights and order Vahagn Chakhalyan to be released as soon as possible.
