At the recent Eurasian Economic Commission meeting, Belarus and Kazakhstan did not approve the Russian Federation (RF) proposal to raise the customs duties on the products that are imported from Ukraine, Vedomosti newspaper wrote citing a federal official.

As reported earlier, Ukraine recently signed the economic section of the European Union Association Agreement. This document suggests the zeroing of import duties.   

The RF authorities have repeatedly stated that in the case of adverse consequences following Ukraine’s signing of the aforesaid document, Russia will protect its domestic market from the flow of non-taxed goods from Europe.     

Ukraine remains a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) free trade zone. And in the absence of support by the other Customs Union (CU) members, Russia has the right to take unilateral measures.
