After September 3 president Serzh Sargsyan sent  important signals to U.S. and Europe that Armenia wants to be partner with us, Ambassador John Heffern said in an interview with the Voice of America Armenian service.

The sale of the Vorotan Hydro Cascade to the American Contour Global company is very important, he said.

“It is very important investment. Energy is very important sector that was previously dominated by the Russian entities. The deal is a very important signal that Armenia still wants to work with U.S. and Europe and that Armenia is open to investments,” Ambassador said.

The diplomat noted that  his focus had been on deepening of economic relationship with Armenia and attracting investments, especially in the regions. It is important to create opportunities in the regions that would get more American companies to invest in these areas, and for this reason it is necessary to continue to improve business climate and to have more transparency.

Ambassador Heffern underscored importance of “open skies” policy adopted by the government.
