Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been detained for questioning as part of a corruption inquiry, Agence France-Presse, reported.

At present, Sarkozy is at the Nanterre Police Department, Reuters reported.

In 2013, the criminal case, which was launched against the ex-President, was dismissed Gazeta.ru reported.

In May 2014, a senior official from the opposition Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) party had confessed to carrying out manipulations, during the 2012 presidential election, in connection with Sarkozy’s accounts. 

In turn, UMP President’s adviser Jérôme Lavrilleux denies the unlawfulness of these manipulations.
