The Verkhovna Rada (Supreme Council; parliament) of Ukraine approved President Petro Poroshenko’s proposal to appoint Valery Geletey as new Defense Minister, UNIAN news agency reported.        

Now ex-Defense Minister Mykhailo Koval, on the other hand, will be designated Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.  

In addition, Lieutenant General Viktor Muzhenko was appointed as the new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 

Poroshenko described Muzhenko as a person who has manifested himself heroically during the anti-terrorist operation.
