YEREVAN. – The Sarsang Reservoir fate’s discussion at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development—and at the Azerbaijani party’s initiative—is in the interests of the Armenian side.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia National Assembly (RPA NA) Faction MP Naira Karapetyan, who is also a member of the Armenian NA delegation to PACE, noted the above-said at Thursday’s parliamentary briefings.

In her words, Azerbaijan has attempted to have the Sarsang Reservoir matter discussed within all international organizations for a long time, but it always received a negative response, until recently.

“The discussion of this mater is very important for the Armenian party. Official Stepanakert [i.e., the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), or Artsakh] has repeatedly offered to operate the Sarsang Reservoir in cooperation with the Azerbaijani party.

“If the Azerbaijani party agrees to it, it will have to conduct negotiations with NKR. From the political point of view this is good for the [settlement of the] Karabakh conflict, since [, in this way,] the Azerbaijani party will indirectly recognize NKR,” Karapetyan stated.
