On June 8, Russian Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostechnadzor) and Turkish Atomic Energy Agency (TAEK) signed a nuclear cooperation agreement. Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz and Russian Deputy Premier Igor Sechin signed the document.

Under the agreement, the sides will cooperate in licensing and supervision, quality management at nuclear facilities, protection from radiation, radioactive fuels and fuel waste management, etc...

At the signing ceremony Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said economic, political and cultural ties between Turkey and Russia reached an unsurpassed level. The turnover between two states reduced to U.S. $ 23bn because of the global crisis, he said, expressing hope it will exceed U.S. $ 100bn.
