The ARF Dashnaktsutyun parliamentary appealed to the RA Government for clarifying its gas consumption and import control policy. The parliamentary faction also asks the Government to explain the pricing policy of the ArmRusGasprom CJSC, provide the information on audit and taxes paid by the company, as the recent rise in gas prices has seriously affected the social-economic situation in Armenia.

ARFD member Artsvik Minasyan explained the appeal has no political implication.

Replying to the ARFD’s questions, RA Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armenia pointed out the social impact of the price rise, which influences the country’s economic competitiveness, considering the fact that Armenia has to import energy resources, the NEWS.am correspondent reports.

This is the main reason for the current pricing policy, and the Government aims at a balanced pricing policy.  He stressed that up-to-date technologies have been introduced in the gas supply system to maximize its efficiency.

Discontent with the minister’s answer, Minasyan pointed out that consumers pay twice much for gas imported for $180. He said it proves the system is nontransparent. The ARFD proposed that the Parliament make a decision obliging the RA Government to provide the data on the international experience in gas supply management, the sector’s state in Armenia, its impact on economy and development prospects.

86.5 % of Armenia’s gas users are ArmRusGasprom’s clients.
