YEREVAN. – Within the framework of his two-day visit to Georgia, Armenia Minister of Justice Hovhannes Manoukian on Monday paid a visit to the Holy Etchmiadzin Church, which is the diocesan center of the Diocese of Georgia of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and also to the Hayartun Armenian cultural center.
The objective of this visit by Manoukian, who for long years had served as Armenia’s Ambassador to Georgia, was to learn from Bishop Vasken Mirzakhanian, Primate of the Diocese of Georgia, the present-day state of the renovations at Saint Gevorg Armenian Church, Hmanoukian.com reported.
Bishop Mirzakhanian informed the minister that the church’s reinforcement and partial reconstruction already have been done. He expressed the hope that once fully renovated, Saint Gevorg will once again reveal its beautiful look as the historical diocesan center church of the Armenian Church Diocese of Georgia.
The Saint Gevorg Church was built in 1251 and it was last renovated in 1924.
