Tbilisi thanked the new Ukrainian authorities for their refusal to recognize independent Abkhazia and South Ossetia, said Georgian FM Grigol Vashadze.
He thanked the Ukrainian President and Foreign Minister for their recent statements on Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. It once again proves Ukraine’s stabilizing role in the region, as well as the fact that Ukraine guards the fundamental principles of international law, Georgia News reports, referring to Vashadze.
Russia recognized independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia after the 2008 August war. Russian media actively discussed the possibility of President Yanukovych following suit. However, on June 4 Ukrainian President stated that he would not recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
