UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders Margaret Sekaggya will visit Armenia at the invitation of the RA Government, June 14-18 to familiarize herself with the guarantees of human rights defenders’ rights and establish dialogue with the authorities.

Margaret Sekaggya will hold meetings with Government officials, representatives of legislative, judicial authorities and international organizations, including the UN. She will also study tendencies and problems of human rights defenders. The UN Special Rapporteur noted that Armenia’s passing through new procedure of universal periodical review of state with human rights opens up new vistas for development of international cooperation. Sekaggya will submit her report on her trip to the session of the UN Human Rights Council in 2011.
