YEREVAN. – Armenia may try to establish itself in the markets of both Russia and Ukraine, Armenia's Medicine Producers and Importers Union chairman Samvel Zakaryan said.

He noted that the pharmaceutical industry in Armenia in the last 6-7 years is annually growing by 15-17 percent, the export is growing, too. However, this year the export is likely to remain at the same level or slightly lower. One of the reasons is a conflict between Russia and Ukraine. 

“Our producers have an opportunity to expand presence at these markets, but this will probably happen in a year. In a short term, the Ukrainian developments complicate the export,” Zakryan noted.

In 2013 the export of pre-packaged drugs from Armenia totaled $ 6,550,000. The main consumers are Russia and other republics of the former Soviet Union: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova and Georgia.
