YEREVAN. – An illegal imports of medicines from Georgia to Armenia continue, expert said. This is explained by the fact that Georgia has no VAT on imports of pharmaceutical products.

“Consequently, drugs are 20 percent cheaper in Georgia and are imported to Armenia,” Medicine Producers and Importers Union chairman Samvel Zakaryan said during a press conference on Tuesday.

One can hardly find illegally imported drugs in the pharmacies of Yerevan, but they can be found in the villages.

It is difficult to detect the dealers at customs checkpoint, as they are importing no more than 10-20 packages. Consequently, it is difficult to prove that pharmaceutical products are for sale.
