Russian-Armenian businessman and benefactor Levon Hayrapetyan, who is jailed in Moscow, refused, at the Moscow Municipal Court, to attend the court session on the appeal of his detention sentence.

“I feel very ill; I barely got here. I trust my attorneys and believe that they will manage without me,” Hayrapetyan said, reported ITAR-TASS news agency of Russia.

In turn, the defendant’s attorney noted that Hayrapetyan’s illness can cause a new seizure, or even have more severe consequences due to excessive emotions.

The court, however, ruled that the session cannot proceed without Hayrapetyan’s presence.

The Russian-Armenian businessman has been taken under custody until September 15. But Hayrapetyan has appealed this decision at the appellate court of the Moscow Municipal Court.

Levon Hayrapetyan, 65, was detained in a Moscow airport on July 15 and subsequently arrested. On July 24, the Russian Federation Investigation Committee brought two criminal charges against him: embezzlement or misuse, and money laundering. To note, even though Hayrapetyan has health problems, he is still kept in prison.
