YEREVAN. – Armenia has not preserved traditions of cheese-making it used to have during the Soviet times, sociologist Aharon Adibekyan said.

As Armenia is preparing to join the Eurasian Economic Union, we must think about what kind of production may attract potential investors to increase competitiveness in new integration project, Adibekyan told reporters on Monday.

During the Soviet times, Armenia was producing one of the best types of cheese in the entire Soviet Union:  Emmental-type and blue cheese resembling Roquefort.

“It is an example of what we had and what we have lost. We must think what we can sell, hoping not for the sanctions against others and not for indulgence of the buyer, but increasing our competitiveness,” Adibekyan concluded.
