YEREVAN. – Eighty-three percent of the families in Armenia have not gotten rid of the “remnants” of the ex-Soviet Union, sociologist Aharon Adibekyan stated at a press conference on Monday.

According to him, solely 17 percent of the families in Armenia believe that their personal matters can be resolved and their objectives be fulfilled solely at their own initiative and activeness.

“The rest pin their hopes on the state, and this means that we [the residents of Armenia] have not yet achieved a real democracy.

“Under an authoritarian regime, the citizens expect everything from the state. In the case of a democratic [regime], however, they have a feeling of responsibility for the state and, on the contrary, they themselves rush to give something to it,” Adibekyan noted.
