YEREVAN. – Members of the “Dem.Am [I am against]” movement, which is a civic initiative that opposes the mandatory component of the new funded pension law in Armenia, on Monday launched a Facebook flash mob.

The initiative members have posted a respective text, with their names and surnames, in the Facebook group titled “Against 5% pension payment.”

Accordingly, the initiative members inform the people that writing a petition for wavering from making the mandatory social payment likewise is a violation of the law.

According to “Dem.Am” member Levon Zakaryan, 80 percent of Armenia’s public is against the new funded pension law which, as per Zakaryan, solely aims to steal money from the people.

“The objective of the flash mob is also to bring enthusiasm among people, and [make them] understand that the Armenian citizen is the decision-maker, and his will is a priority,” Zakaryan added.

Another “Dem.Am” member, Harut Aghlamazyan, noted that the matter will not be resolved by just writing a petition to be exempt from making the mandatory social payment.

“A principled stand should be manifested, and [it should be] understood that you can fight against unlawfulness even if this law does not directly apply to you,” Aghlamazyan stated.
