No high hopes should be put on the Sargsyan-Medvedev-Aliyev meeting in St. Petersburg, the political scientist Yervand Bozoyan told NEWS.am. According to the expert, it will be a regular meeting of the three leaders, but no major breakthroughs can be expected in Karabakh peace process.

According to him, it is another diplomatic step not to be taken too seriously. Russia will certainly present its proposals for bilateral concessions, but Yerevan will not make any concessions - it is a matter of national security, and the Armenian side has no resource for compromise.

“The Karabakh conflict is not only a territorial problem, it is a critical geopolitical issue,” the expert said. He also stressed that Russia’s increased role in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process should be considered in the light of recent intensification of Russian-Turkish relations, as Ankara is interested in Moscow’s increased role in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.

Commenting on Russian media reports on rapid deployment of peacekeepers in Karabakh, and Turkish contingent in Nakhchivan, the expert noted it is at least another provocation. “The Karabakh issue is too complicated to be solved primitively,” the expert stressed.

“The conflict resolution will take much time and efforts,” Bozoyan concluded.
