The Head of the interim Kyrgyz government Roza Otunbayeva put the death toll in Kyrgyz clashes at 2,000.

"The losses are greater. I would multiply the official figure by ten. This is because there were many families in rural areas, and in line with our customs, we usually bury the dead straight away, before sunset,” Otunbayeva said in an interview with Kommersant newspaper.

On June 18, Otunbayeva held telephone conversations with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The sides discussed the situation in Osh and Jalalabad, RIA Novosti reports.

On June 11, interethnic clashes broke out in Osh, the southern capital of Kyrgyzstan, claiming 191 lives. The provisional government imposed a state of emergency in Osh and Jalalabad. On June 17, the United Nations reported on 400,000 people displaced due to the unrest.
