The Karabakh conflict is not a problem to be solved easily, Hovhannes Sahakyan, of the Republican Party parliamentary faction, told NEWS.am, speaking of expectations from the Medvedev-Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting in Saint Petersburg. “It is not an issue to be solved at once, it is not just sitting at the table, talking and agreeing on something. It is a complex problem, as people living in Karabakh expressed their will, forming power be means of referendum and recent elections. Although not a single country recognized the elections, people who will determine their own fate are living there,” the MP said.

As to whether the trilateral meeting will further impact the Karabakh peace process, amid the warlike statements by Azerbaijan, Sahakyan said: “Despite Azerbaijan’s regular warlike statements, President Aliyev again sits at the negotiating table and listens to all the proposals. His statements remind me of sportsman who claims he will knock his opponent out before the fight starts but loses thereafter. To speak seriously, I am confident that Azerbaijan, represented by the Aliyev clan, makes such statements to retain their power.”

If Azerbaijan has a half percent chance to win in small battle, they will immediately resume hostilities, without considering the peace process or the world community. “I am confident that Azerbaijanis are not ready for war. What they should fight for? Meanwhile, the Artsakh people will struggle for their historical motherland if a new war breaks out,” Sahakyan emphasized.
