NEWS.am presents a blitz interview with Masis Mayilian, the former NKR Foreign Minister, Chairman of NKR Public Council on Foreign Policy and Security.
Question: How do you appraise the Sargsyan-Medvedev-Aliyev meeting in St Petersburg?
Answer: I welcome the very fact of this top-level meeting and firmly declared readiness to continue the dialogue. No breakthrough is expected in the negotiation process for a number of reasons. However, communication between the conflicting parties, even if it is “a reduced format”, is preferable to the lack of any contacts.
Question: What impact the trilateral meeting may have on further negotiation process, with Azerbaijan’s warlike statements considered?
Answer: Experience shows, the tension in Karabakh conflict zone is somewhat reduced before and after such meetings, sniper shots on the borders become rarer, which is important. However, the international community has not created any conditions necessary for qualitative changes in Azerbaijan’s relations with Armenia and the NKR.
As for Azerbaijan’s bellicose statements, they will be put an end to when Nagorno-Karabakh gains international independence and becomes a legitimate part of the regional security architecture.
