YEREVAN. – As of Wednesday at 3:30pm, Armenia’s Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons has not received an official confirmation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and concerning Armenian citizen Sargis Ananyan’s detention by Azerbaijani authorities.

Armen Kaprielyan, who is head of the Commission working group, told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, there is information on Noyemberyan city resident Sargis Ananyan (born in 1961), from whom his acquaintances have no information since August 25. At present, verification is carried out, and the circumstances are being ascertained for his alleged going to the Azerbaijani side.

“As for Azerbaijan’s politicized actions and the Azerbaijani press reports about the detainee’s statements, if we are talking about the same man who has disappeared from Armenia and is detained in Azerbaijan, I would not give so much importance to his words and take them too seriously, since he suffers from serious mental deviations as a result of long time alcohol abuse,” Kaprielyan noted.

Azerbaijan claims that Armenian citizen Sargis Ananyan was detained on August 26 nearby Kemerli village.
