YEREVAN. - The trilateral meeting between the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev and Secretary of State John Kerry was organized at the initiative of the United States, Armenian Presidential press office informs Armenian News - NEWS.am.

During the meeting the parties discussed issues related to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement; the participants presented their countries’ approaches.

Secretary of State Kerry in his speech stressed that there is no alternative to peaceful resolution of the conflict and urged to avoid further escalation and to find mechanisms that allow exclusion of further tension. John Kerry also focused on the measures for strengthening confidence between the parties.

U.S. Secretary of State stressed the importance of the OSCE Minsk Group format for continuous negotiations and expressed willingness to support a peaceful resolution. He also noted the vital role of political will for peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Serzh Sargsyan arrived in Wales to participate in the meeting of the heads of state and government from NATO and ISAF partner nations held within the framework of NATO summit.

Earlier Sargsyan met with his French counterpart Francois Hollande.
