YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition National Self-Determination Union (NSU) Chairman, ex-presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan has gone on a hunger strike since Sunday.
“I’m fine; I don’t feel it at all,” Hayrikyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
At present, the NSU leader is preparing for Monday’s rally at Liberty Square in capital city Yerevan, and he will be outside the Office of the President every day between 5pm and 6pm.
“As they say, [I will be] ‘on duty’ so that I will not miss it when, all of a sudden, [President] Serzh Sargsyan makes a statement on his resignation.
“During the residential election he was saying that we [Armenia] are going toward Europe, [but] he has taken back those words of his, he has given up from himself, and therefore he must inform us of his resignation,” the former presidential candidate noted.
Paruyr Hayrikyan added, however, that he assessed Sargsyan’s address at the recent NATO summit to be good, but said that this is not a position.
