YEREVAN. – “I don’t see any reason why the [political] parties that are in the [parliamentary] four, and which do not consider the constitutional reforms to be indispensable, should change their future plans.”

Non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party National Assembly (PAP NA) Faction Secretary Naira Zohrabyan told the aforesaid to reporters on Tuesday.

She stated this in response to a query as to whether the “parliamentary four”—which comprises the four non-government NA factions (Armenian National Congress, PAP, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, and Heritage)—can crumble considering the fact that the constitutional reform draft assumes a transition to a parliamentary system, and ARF favors this transition.

In Zorabyan’s words, PAP continues to insist that there is no need for constitutional reforms in Armenia.

“We are not against some changes, but any change must be done at the right time, and under the conditions of broad mutual concessions. Otherwise, the consequences can be perilous,” the PAP MP stated.

And in response to the remark as to the rumors that PAP seeks the country’s presidency and fights for the power, Zohrabyan noted:

“It’s natural that a political force such as the PAP can aspire for nominating a presidential candidate; there is nothing objectionable in it. What is more, the opposite case would have been illogical.”
