June 18, at 23:30 local time, a 20-member Azerbaijani task force intruded into the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) near the village of Chaylu.

Due to the NKR Defense Army’s actions, the Azerbaijani task force incurred losses and retreated, the NKR Defense Ministry press service informed NEWS.am. The Karabakh side also had victims in the fighting.

“It is noteworthy that a regular serious incident on the contact line between the conflicting parties occurred right after the Armenian-Azerbaijani-Russian presidential meeting, considering the fact that, during the meeting, Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev expressed readiness to continue the Karabakh peace process.

Stating the facts of the present and previous attacks, as well as regular ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan, the Defense Ministry finds it necessary to state that Azerbaijan is thus purposely trying to destabilize the situation on the contact line and shatter peace in the region. The NKR Defense Ministry once again reminds and warns Baku that each attempt to undermine the NKR’s security and destabilize the situation will get an adequate response,” the statement reads.

Four soldiers of the NKR Defense Army were killed and another 4 injured in an act of sabotage by Azerbaijan.
