The Russian State Duma Defense Committee will deliberate on making amendments to the Law on Alternative Civil Service.

Pursuant to these amendments, homosexual Russian citizens will be able to carry out an alternative civil service at their own will, reported Izvestia daily of Russia.

The newspaper also recalled that, at present, this law gives rights to alternative service for those Russian citizens whose convictions, or beliefs, run contrary to military service.

Defense Committee member Igor Zotov stated that such legislative amendments will ease the lives of homosexuals.
