Kazakhstan stresses Turkey’s crucial role in the Karabkh peace process, Kazakh Foreign Minister, OSCE Chairman-in-Office Kanat Saudabayev stated at a June 21 press conference, following the meeting with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu.

Saudabayev said they could not slip over the Karabakh conflict. As an OSCE Chairman-in-Office Kazakhstan steps up efforts to reduce tension in protracted conflicts, and Turkey’s involvement in their resolution is very important.

In his turn, the Turkish FM noted the efforts needed to reduce tension in the Karabakh conflict were the focus at the meeting.

According to him, the current year in Eurasia can be called a year of Turkey and Kazakhstan. The two fraternal nations will carry on joint activities to establish peace and stability in the region, Kazinform quotes Davutoglu.

Kazakhstan initially offered its mediation in Karabakh peace process during Saudabayev’s visit to Armenia. However, Yerevan considered Kazakhstan’s mediation undesirable. Presently, Kazakhstan seeks to push Turkey into the process as a mediator, but official Yerevan has repeatedly stated Ankara’s involvement is impossible.
