June 22, an international documentary film festival opens in Istanbul.  The animation film entitled “Barking Island” by the French-Armenian director Serge Avedikian will be demonstrated at the festival.

A month ago Serge Avedikian’s film won the Best Short Film prize at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival.

Critics consider the film Avedikian’s attempt to allegorically present the ethnic minorities’ fate in the Ottoman Empire early in the 20th century.

According to Hurriyet daily, 120 documentaries from 35 countries will be screened at the festival. A photo exhibition dedicated to the journalists killed in Istanbul in 1980-2010 will also be held. The festival will last till June 27.
