YEREVAN. – Economist Bagrat Asatryan hopes that Armenia will not join the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU) because, in his view, this organization is political and it does not solve any economic matter.
“The [Russia-led] Customs Union will be worse a year later, and the majority of the Armenian public will be against accession to this organization.
“We have nothing to get from this union. The Armenian people should realize what this union will give instead of a political, financial, [and] economic disrepair.
“Russia is no longer speaks about the prospects. So, becoming a member in this union will be disastrous for us [, Armenia],” Asatryan stated at a press conference on Wednesday.
In turn, economist Gagik Makaryan, who is also Chairman of the Republican Union of Employers of Armenia, expressed a view that after the present-day sanctions against Russia, Armenia’s EaEU accession will be risky.
“Armenia should no longer rely on Russia. We [Armenia] must try to establish ties with large foreign companies,” Makaryan added.
