YEREVAN. – Hundreds of workers from the bazaars of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan have assembled outside the Government Building on Thursday, to express their discontent over the Law on Turnover Tax, which will come into force on October 1.

The number of protesters is growing, and a large number of police officers are watching over the demonstration, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informed from the location.

“This [protest] just bears a demonstrative nature because we will hold a big rally, on September 30, at Liberty Square [in Downtown Yerevan], and we will present our demands.

“We don’t ask for a meeting with the PM today,” said Stepan Aslanyan, chairman of the Armenian Union of Small Entrepreneurs.

In his words, they propose that the aforesaid law be recalled, discussed with the representatives of this domain, and be amended.

According to the workers of the bazaars, the government knows very well whom the large businesses belong, whereas this law will just eradicate the small and medium-sized enterprises in Armenia.
