YEREVAN. – The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) may set up a customs checkpoint on the border with Armenia as an attribute of a sovereign state.
Political scientist Aleksandr Manasyan stated the above-said, at a press conference on Friday, commenting on the chances of setting up such a checkpoint once Armenia joins the Eurasian Economic Union.
Manasyan stressed that, no matter how strange it may sound, he supports the setting up of such a checkpoint on the Armenia-NKR border.
“This customs checkpoint may work in one mode in the case of Armenia, [and] in [a] completely different [mode] in the case of another country. So, I don’t see any danger here,” the analyst specified.
In his words, today, the customs checkpoint would be installed on the border with Armenia, and tomorrow, it may be set up on the borders with Iran and Azerbaijan.
“We [, Armenia,] are in the domain of single economic relations with Nagorno-Karabakh, [and] therefore I believe that this checkpoint cannot lead to any negative impact,” the political scientist concluded.
