YEREVAN. – Times are not good for the Air Armenia airline company, the latter informed Armenian News-NEWS.am adding, however, that the rumors of bankruptcy are false.
Air Armenia also has issued a respective official statement, where it is noted that all competitors of the company do not miss the opportunity to disseminate negative information to discredit Air Armenia.
“We have never had an aircraft that was purchased from Dubai. The airplanes in the company fleet are leased from the Dutch, with respective contracts. Their maintenance is carried out abroad.
“Unfortunately, the maintenance of one of the planes was not planned by the company. The [resulting] shortage of the aircrafts has brought some changes to the flight schedule.
“We have not asked any of the employees to submit a letter of resignation. All [of them] have worked and are working for the company,” the Air Armenia statement specifically reads.
Zhamanak daily had stated that Air Armenia airline company has serious problems and it probably will declare bankruptcy in the near future.
“The airline has large debts to Zvartnots [International] Airport [of Armenian capital city of Yerevan]. In addition, it has not yet paid in full for the two aircrafts it acquired from Dubai, and it still has a $5 million in debt.
“We have learned that the airline company already has summoned its employees and asked [them] to write letters of resignation, since it can no longer pay their salaries.
“In actual fact, Armenia is unable to have a national air carrier, and this is the [country’s] second airline [, after Armavia,] to face bankruptcy,” Zhamanak wrote.
