YEREVAN. – October 3 is a very important and happy day in the history of Germany said Reiner Morell, German Ambassador to Armenia, at a press conference on Friday.

He recalled the respective background saying that there were two German states until October 3, 1990.

“The German people did not believe that the unification of the two Germanies could occur so quickly, and this was a real miracle,” the diplomat stressed.

He added that the protests in Germany resulted in the fall of the Berlin Wall.

“And it took the German Democratic Republic [i.e., East Germany] one year to decide to reunify with the Federal Republic of Germany.

“For this reason we [Germans] mark two events: The demolition of the Berlin Wall in 1989, and the reunification of the two sectors of Germany on October 3, 1990,” Ambassador Morel concluded.
