By regularly violating the ceasefire, Azerbaijan tries to show it is capable of doing something more than mere words, the political expert Alexander Markarov told a press conference on June 24. The Karabakh peace process is deadlocked, and Azerbaijan is thus trying tries to elicit a certain response by the world community.

As to the recent incident on the line of contact, Markarov stated that the NKR did not repulse the attack decisively. “You can see in every textbook that when the attacker loses one soldier, whereas the one defending itself four, besides the injured, it is a defeat,” Markarov said.

On June 18, an Azeri task force intruded into the Nagorno-Karabakh territory. A resultant encounter killed four Armenian soldiers, leaving four injured. The Azeri task force retreated, leaving one dead.
