YEREVAN. – If he receives an invitation, Armenia’s opposition National Self-Determination Union (NSU) Chairman, ex-presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan will participate in Friday’s rally of the three non-government parliamentary factions (Armenian National Congress, Prosperous Armenia, and Heritage), Hayrikyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am on Tuesday.
“There is no direct invitation. So, my being [at the rally] depends on what developments will happen. They have not specified their main agenda, slogan, demand, and it’s difficult to say something preliminary under these conditions. At any rate, our [fellow party members] will go. If they invite, I’ll go, too, but not as an observer,” the NSU leader said.
In Hayrikyan’s words, there is only one thing in common between the ideologies of the “parliamentary trio” and his party: both are against the proposed constitutional reforms.
As per the ex-presidential candidate, however, the “trio” are “disregarding something very important” by not putting the Customs Union accession matter on the agenda of the rally.
“I’m glad that they are trying to make a move, but they don’t distinguish between the primary and the secondary; our task is to help them understand. They should be prompted that foreign policy means sovereignty, democracy; these are the main issues,” Paruyr Hayrikyan specifically noted.
