The Nobel Peace Prize 2014 was awarded jointly to Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzay "for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education".

Over 270 candidates, 47 of them international and non-government organizations, were in the list for the Nobel Peace Prize 2014.

17-year-old Malala is the youngest recipient of the prize

“The struggle against suppression and for the rights of children and adolescents contributes to the realization of the “fraternity between nations” that Alfred Nobel mentions in his will as one of the criteria for the Nobel Peace Prize,” the Committee said in a statement.
