There is no updated version of the proposals for the Karabakh peace process, OSCE Minsk Group Russian Co-Chair Igor Popov said in an interview with Zhamanak (The Time) newspaper.
“I will avoid using such terms as Madrid Principles or updated Madrid Principles. It is essential there is a certain group of settlement principles, but there is no common notion how to implement them. This is the reason for the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ activities aimed at making certain proposals,” he said.
Over some provisions Armenia disagrees with Azerbaijan and vice versa, others were agreed by both sides, Popov said.
He said that their task is get the sides’ positions converge and a document signed. The Russian Co-Chair found it difficult to say how long the process will continue. The Karabakh peace process is rather complicated, as it is a long process, he noted.
As to the recent incidents in the contact line, Popov stated that presently it is unacceptable to speak of hostilities and everything should be done to prevent further escalation.
