YEREVAN. – The Republic of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) are a single economic unit, whereas Nazarbayev’s statements are not recorded in any treaty.
Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) National Assembly Faction Secretary Gagik Melikyan noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Tuesday.
He stated this commenting on Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s statement that Armenia had made a compromise when joining the Eurasian Economic Union.
“During the talks, when Nazarbayev raised the matter of Armenia’s borders and whether or not Karabakh is a part of Armenia, such verbal thoughts were not recorded during any negotiation, on any treaty. Nazarbayev’s oral statements were taken into consideration, and that’s all.
“The NKR is a free, independent, and sovereign state, which is not recognized by only the international community; [but] I believe this matter likewise will be resolved soon. The NKR is not and cannot be a part of Azerbaijan. The NKR and Armenia cannot be separate. Nazarbayev’s statement should be accepted in words,” he said.
The RPA MP also expressed a conviction that oral statements and agreements cannot be a reason for setting up a customs checkpoint between Armenia and the NKR.
Armenia signed, on October 10 in the Belarusian capital city of Minsk, the treaty on accession to the Eurasian Economic Union.
