Аrmenia’s decision to join the Eurasian Economic Union was perhaps correct in economic terms and on a short-term basis, but in the long term, the European Union (EU) would have been more beneficial for Armenia.
European Parliament Member (MEP) Gunnar Hökmark (Sweden)—who is also member of the European Parliament Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly and member of the Delegation to the EU-Armenia, EU-Azerbaijan and EU-Georgia Parliamentary Cooperation Committees—stated the aforementioned at his talk, on Tuesday in Brussels, with Artak Zakaryan, Chairman of the Armenian National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Relations.
Hökmark added that, especially in this context, it is important for Armenia to show an interest in further cooperation with the EU.
At the end of the talk, Zakaryan invited the Swedish MEP to Armenia next year, to be on hand at the events to be organized on the centenary of the Armenian Genocide.
