Within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU), Russia will build relations with partners by taking the European Union (EU) track-record into account, said Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.

In her words, the general rules and laws of all integration unions are at the basis of the EaEU treaty.

“Europe’s track record is interesting, but the EU likewise is not without its problems,” Matviyenko stressed.

She noted that by making use of the existing track-record during the establishment of the EaEU, “a prospect and an opportunity is also possible for the creation of a new model for an integration union.”

“All the decisions here [, in the EaEU,] will be taken based on consensus; there are no big brothers, small brothers here,” she explained.

The Russian politician assured, however, that this is not about an attempt to restore the former Soviet Union.

“And this [, the re-establishment of the ex-USSR,] is inexpedient in the modern world,” Valentina Matviyenko added, reported TASS news agency of Russia.

Armenia signed, on October 10 in the Belarusian capital city of Minsk, the treaty on accession to the Eurasian Economic Union.
