The joint statement on Nagorno-Karabakh by the U.S., Russian and French Presidents on June 26, 2010 repeats the provisions set out in summer 2009, NKR Foreign and Security Policy Council Chairman Masis Mayilyan told NEWS.am.
“It can be stated the positions of the OSCE MG Co-Chair countries’ approaches to settling the Karabakh-Azerbaijani conflict have remained unchanged over the past year. The Russian, U.S. and French Presidents’ commitment to the earlier proposed provisions indicates their desire to turn the clock back in an individual region, which is an overwhelming task even for the leaders of the influential powers,” he said.
“Perhaps some of these provisions would have been relevant and attractive to Karabakh 20 years ago. However, after the Azerbaijan-unleashed large-scale war against the Karabakh people, deaths of thousands of people, ethnic cleansings, military occupation and material damage, to offer the Armenian side an obscure interim status of Nagorno-Karabakh in vague terms of ‘free expression of will’ in exchange for a rather lower level of their security, is at least not serious. It is surprising such statements are made by the countries that initiated the international recognition of Kosovo, South Ossetia and Abkhazia two years ago. It would be logical to apply this international practice - which is effective in the above-mentioned conflict zones - in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” Mayilyan said.
