The Head of interim Kyrgyz government Roza Otunbayeva has been elected interim president until December 31, 2011. The provisional government passed a decree, delegating powers to the interim president until national elections are held.
“With the adoption of a new constitution, in Kyrgyzstan comes a transition period president. I am receiving the powers of transition period president and I will also lead the Government,” Otunbayeva said.
As NEWS.am reported earlier, the June 27 referendum asked the voters two questions: do they support a new constitution which diminishes presidential powers and strengthens parliamentary authority? Do they agree to endorse interim leader Roza Otunbayeva as acting president for 18 months?
According to preliminary results, more than 90% of voters supported the new charter, reported the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).
