The interim status of Nagorno-Karabakh, which will give an opportunity for self-determination in future, is a cornerstone of the conflict resolution, Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov stated at the June 29 press conference.
According to him, Armenia set out three clear and unequivocal conditions, namely, land corridor, security guarantees and independence, which are not subject to any discussions. “Armenia will not make any concessions on the matter,” Sharmazanov stressed, adding all the others are secondary questions.
“Our goal is the international recognition of Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh. Karabakh cannot have a lower status than todays’. It is unacceptable to us,” he emphasized.
Sharmazanov noted the Karabakh peace process has entered a new stage. However it is far from being solved. “In fact the conflict format is bilateral, namely, NKR and Azerbaijan. Armenia still represents Karabakh’s interests. It is out of the question to speak of the final stage of the conflict settlement, unless some understand Nagorno-Karabakh will never be part of Azerbaijan,” he concluded.
