YEREVAN. – The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Hermine Naghdalyan, on Monday received a delegation led by Manja Henriette Ahrens, the Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Armenia.
The guests informed that UNICEF has launched a series of events, including with the NA, at the threshold of the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the interlocutors discussed the format and agenda of these events.
Naghdalyan noted that the children’s rights are always at the focus of the Armenian parliament, and she expressed a conviction that the joint events and programs devoted to children’s issues will be ongoing.
Ahrens, for her part, stated that she has become convinced that the legislation related to the protection of children’s rights is at the focus of the Armenian parliament and, in this context, she underscored the need to invigorate cooperation between the NA and UNICEF.
The interlocutors also reflected on the legislative reforms with respect to the protection of the rights of the preschool and vocational school children .
