In its strategy of developing Armenia’s railway infrastructur, the South Caucasus Railways (SCR) follows the logic that sooner or later all the political problems will be settled, President of the Russian Railways OJSC Vladimir Yakunin told a press briefing on July 1.
The matter is the issues of inert-state relations are not within the scope of the compaany, he said, commenting on possible connection of Armenian and Turkish railways through Adjara. He stated that the Armenian leadership attaches major significance to these issues. According to him, the company works within the framework of the International Union of Railways and does its utmost for railways “to work like a dream.” They do everything for railways not to be affected by negative political influence while collaborating with their partners.
As to rumors in Georgian press saying that the country’s railway system will possibly be granted a concession to Russian Railways, Yakunin noted that no official talks are being held. He added he is unaware of the fact. Yakunin also refused to comment on the Russian company’s interest in Georgia’s railway system.
