YEREVAN. – The President’s announcement means that the authorities accept recommendations and criticism.
Armenian National Assembly (NA) Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also Press Secretary of the ruling Republican Party (RPA), told the aforementioned to reporters, commenting on President Serzh Sargsyan’s recent statement with respect to the parliamentary opposition’s twelve-point demands to the government.
“This means that the power, represented by the President, is not escalating the situation, and our objective is to discuss and resolve, by way of negotiations, the most important problems facing the country,” Sharmazanov said.
The NA deputy chairman added that Sargsyan had noted that all the forces must be used to achieve Armenia’s development.
The RPA spokesperson also stated that the government has responded to the abovementioned twelve-point demands, but the opposition is not satisfied with this response and, what is more, it accuses the authorities of a failed policy.
“Based on this circumstance, the President of Armenia gives another opportunity by saying that we [, the authorities,] are in favor of dialogue. We need to find common ground with the opposition.
“We are the passengers of the same ship, and the people’s problems will not be solved by turmoil and mutual accusations,” Eduard Sharmazanov maintained.
